Wednesday works: Beyond Brilliant leads 7 graded winners

Seven-year-old Beyond Brilliant, winner of three graded stakes but unraced since 2022, continues to work at Santa Anita for trainer John Shirreffs.

The son of Twirling Candy worked five furlongs in 1:00.6 at Santa Anita, ninth fastest of 13 at the distnce.

Beyond Brilliant finished second by a neck to Hong Kong Harry in the Grade 2 Seabiscuit Handicap in November 2022, his most recent start. Until this spring, his most recent work had been in November 2023. He resumed training in April and has had 10 outings.

His previous work was 11 days ago going five furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start he placed second in the Seabiscuit Handicap (G2) going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Del Mar on Nov. 26, 2022, for trainer John Shirreffs.

Atitlan (The Factor), a two-time Grade 2 winner (2025 Charles Whittingham, 2024 Twilight Derby), worked five furlongs in 1:00.6 at Santa Anita on Wednesday morning. It was the ninth fastest of 13 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start he placed fifth in the Shoemaker Mile (G1) going one mile on the turf at Santa Anita on May 26 for trainer John Shirreffs.

Verstappen (War Front), a Grade 2 winner (2023 Elkhorn), worked four furlongs in 49.0 seconds at Turfway Park on Wednesday morning. It was the 13th fastest of 35 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed third in the Chorleywood going 1 3/8 miles on the turf at Churchill Downs on June 14 for trainer Brendan Walsh.

Yes I Am Free (Uncaptured), a two-time Grade 3 winner (2023 Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint, 2022 Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint), worked four furlongs in 49.0 seconds at Palm Meadows on Wednesday morning. It was the fastest of seven works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed fifth in an allowance race going five furlongs on the turf at Gulfstream Park on June 8 for trainer Laura Cazares.

Here Mi Song (Cross Traffic), a Grade 3 winner (2023 Commonwealth), worked four furlongs in 49.2 seconds at Ellis Park on Wednesday morning. It was the third fastest of four works at the distance. His previous work was 11 days ago going four furlongs at Ellis Park. In his last start he placed fifth in the Aristides (G3) going six furlongs on the main track at Churchill Downs on May 31 for trainer Billy Stinson.

Watchtower (Demarchelier), a Grade 3 winner (2024 Autumn Miss), worked four furlongs in 48.2 seconds at San Luis Rey on Wednesday morning. It was the fourth fastest of 13 works at the distance. Her previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at San Luis Rey. In her last start she placed ninth in the Pegasus World Cup Filly and Mare Turf Invitational (G2) going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 25 for trainer Richard Baltas.

Ice Chocolat (Goldikovic), a Grade 3 winner (2024 Poker), worked three furlongs in 38.6 seconds at Woodbine on Wednesday morning. It was the third fastest of three works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed eighth in the Appleton going one mile on the turf at Gulfstream Park on March 29 for trainer Mark Casse.
