Empyrean Stables’ Zipessa, second in the Rodeo Drive (G1) at Santa Anita on Oct. 1 in her most recent race, tuned up for an expected start in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1) to be run at Santa Anita on Nov. 5 with a five-furlong work in 1:04 on a firm turf course under Julien Leparoux.

Trainer Mike Stidham was happy with the work and said shipping plans still were being determined to get the filly to Santa Anita. Zipessa, third in the Beverly D. (G1) in August, had worked a half-mile on the dirt in :48.20 on Oct. 15.
Also breezing on the turf were two sets of horses for trainer Wesley Ward.
First were two candidates for the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1) on Nov. 5, Undrafted and Acapulco. Undrafted was clocked in 1:02 and Acapulco in 1:02.40 for five furlongs with both runners getting the final quarter-mile in :24.
Possible Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) entrants for Ward, Red Lodge and Con Te Partiro, worked five furlongs in 1:03.
The deadline for Breeders’ Cup pre-entries is noon Pacific time Monday. Pre-entries are scheduled to be released Wednesday.
