Zinger, Half-Brother to I'm a Chatterbox, Steps Up in Stanton
Fletcher and Carolyn Gray’s Zinger, a half-brother of 2016 Delaware Handicap winner I’m a Chatterbox, will be seeking his first career stake victory when he faces eight rivals in the $50,000 Stanton Stakes at Delaware Park this Saturday. The mile-and-a-sixteenth turf test for 3-year-olds is a prep for the Grade III Kent Stakes to be run July 15 as part of the Delaware Handicap card.
In his most recent, the Kentucky-bred locally conditioned by trainer J. Larry Jones posted a 5¼-length triumph in a mile-and-a-sixteenth allowance off the turf allowance at Pimlico on May 25. Previously, the son of The Factor from the dam Chit Chatter ran second in a mile-and-a-sixteenth turf allowance at Laurel on April 14. He has a career record of two wins, four seconds and a third from nine starts.
“He is doing well,” said trainer J. Larry Jones. “He ran well in his prep race, he came out of it in great shape, so we hope he is rounding into form. We did try him in a stakes at Fair Grounds and he had a pretty solid effort, and he has been running well against older horses, so we are pretty excited about him especially since he is I’m a Chatterbox’s little brother. He might not be a I’m a Chatterbox, but we think he is a pretty darn good horse.”
