Zimmer Takes Churchill Feature

Stone Farm and Jack Mandato’s Zimmer took the lead from Electric Alphabet leaving the far turn and cruised to a 2 3/4-length victory in Sunday’s featured $53,164 The Inn Crowd Purse for 3-year-olds and up at Churchill Downs.

Zimmer, a 4-year-old Kentucky-bred son of 2003 Belmont Stakes winner Empire Maker, covered the 1 1/16 miles on the fast main track in 1:43.95 under jockey Corey Lanerie. The victory was worth $32,160 and raised Zimmer’s career earnings to $91,890 with a record of 9-2-2-1.

Trained by Pat Byrne, Zimmer returned $9.60, $5.20 and $3.60. Favored Apart, ridden by Alex Solis, rallied for second to pay $3 and $2.10 and finished a neck in front of Bravo Whiskey, who paid $4.20 to show under Robby Albarado.
