Hall of Fame mare Zenyatta has lost her 2021 foal, a filly by Candy Ride.

"We at Team Zenyatta and Lane’s End Farm are deeply saddened to share that Zenyatta lost her 2021 foal early this year," reads a post on the 17-year-old mare's website.

Since retiring from the track in 2010, the broodmare career of Zenyatta has been an up-and-down ride.

Her first foal — Cozmic One, by Bernardini — was born in 2012. He was followed by a Tapit colt, Ziconic, in 2013. Neither won a race.

Zenyatta's 2014 foal, Z Princess, by War Front, died at 6 months; and a 2016 foal by War Front passed away shortly after birth.

A 2017 foal, Zellda, by Medaglia d'Oro, has yet to race after being in-and-out of training for at Santa Anita for John Shirreffs.

Zenyatta also lost a pregnancy In 2018 when in-foal to Into Mischief. Last May, she dropped a Candy Ride filly named Zilkha.

Zenyatta, who won 19 of her 20 starts and is the only female horse to ever win the Breeders' Cup Classic, was campaigned by Ann and Jerry Moss.
