Zayat Stables LLC’s Zee Bros grabbed the lead several jumps out of the gate and went on to post a 2 ¼-length triumph in the $100,000 Chick Lang Stakes for three-year-olds at Pimlico Race Course.

Away alertly under Martin Garcia, Zee Bros covered the six-furlong distance in 1:10.72. Bobcat Jim, ridden by Robby Albarado, caught Brave Dave at the wire to finish second.

Zee Bros, a son of Brother Derek, is trained by Bob Baffert. Now a winner of two of four starts, the bay colt led but tired to sixth in his previous start, the Derby Trial (G3) at Churchill Downs.

Zee Bros paid $7.40 to win.

CHICK LANG STAKES QUOTES

Bob Baffert (trainer, Zee Bros, winner) – “We’ve always been really high on this horse. His Derby Trial (6th place), he went real fast, the track was off and tiring. He got a lot out of it and we expected him to run a big race today. He didn’t like the 2-hole. I said, ‘Don’t worry, he’s doing awesome.‘ When they are doing awesome you have to run them.”

Martin Garcia (jockey, Zee Bros, winner) – “He took me all the way throughout the race. I was really confident and when I asked, he took off.”

Robby Albarado (jockey, Bobcat Jim, 2nd) – “I lay second the entire way and we were in perfect position, but we were just second-best today.”
