Zenyatta, 2010 Horse of the Year, gave birth to a dark bay colt by Bernardini at 10:10 pm ET Thursday, March 8 at Lane's End Farm in Versailles, Kentucky.

The colt weighs in at 130 pounds, and his dark bay coat is decorated with a star and white spots on his feet. Both mom and baby are reportedly doing fine.

Owners Jerry and Ann Moss came in from California to witness the birth, and photos released throughout the week showed them waiting patiently with their star mare.

The news broke on Twitter at around 11:30 ET and was confirmed on Zenyatta's official web site shortly after. Fans swamped the site, which went down for a short while early Friday morning.

Zenyatta's foal joins the colt out of 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra among the "celebrity foals" of 2012. Racing can be assured of a great renewal of the rivalry between the legendary mares among fans of their sons for years to come.
