Yuvetsi, Anonymity head field of five in LA Woman Stakes

Hard hitting fillies Yuvetsi and Anonymity head a field of five fillies and mares three and up in Sunday’s Grade III, $100,000 LA Woman Stakes at Santa Anita.
Trained by Richard Mandella, Anonymity had a sparkling resume heading into the Grade III Rancho Bernardo Stakes at Del Mar Aug. 12 and was thus hammered to 2-5 favoritism, but she was no match late for the John Sadler-conditioned Yuvetsi, who forced the early issue en route to an authoritative 2 ½ length win at 9-1.
Simon Callaghan’s Classy Tune, Gary Sherlock’s Show It N Moe It and Bill Spawr’s Skye Diamonds all rate legitimate chances Sunday if they bring their respective “A-Games.”
YUVETSI
Owner: Hronis Racing, LLC
Trainer: John Sadler
A well beaten fourth two starts back going 1 1/16 miles in the Grade I Clement Hirsch July 29, this 4-year-old Kentucky-bred filly by Bodemeister seemed to relish the return to sprinting in the Rancho Bernardo, a race in which she drew the rail in a field of four. Although dispatched at 9-1, her connections are out to prove the race was not a fluke as she faces a rematch with Anonymity. With Tyler Baze back in the saddle, Yuvetsi has two wins and a second from three tries at 6 ½ furlongs and she’s 5-2-1-2 here at Santa Anita. With earnings of $239,930, she has an overall mark of 13-4-3-2.
ANONYMITY
Owner: LNJ Foxwoods
Trainer: Richard Mandella
Bred in the purple, this 4-year-old Tapit filly has given every indication she’s top class. An impressive first-out maiden winner at age three in August, 2017, she’s been an odds-on favorite in four subsequent starts, winning two of them, including a second condition allowance by 8 ¼ lengths two starts back on July 29. Although well beaten after dueling head and head early with Yuvetsi in the Rancho Bernardo, Anonymity has come back to train very well, evidenced by a bullet half mile of 47 flat here on Sept. 23, best of 96 at the distance. With Flavien Prat back aboard, she seeks her first graded win as she tries to improve her overall mark of 5-3-2-0.
