Yourdreamsormine Benefits From Perfect Trip in Bull Gator
Yourdreamsormine ($9.80) benefited from a perfect trip to spring a mild upset in the $75,000 Bull Gator Stakes Friday at Gulfstream Park.
Making his first start for trainer Milton Wolfson and NTS Stable, the 4-year-old colt settled into stride in third as We’re All Set and Grande Shores scrimmaged up front. Jockey Emisael Jaramillo sent his mount up to tackle to leaders turning for home and Yourdreamsormine proved strongest in the stretch for a three-length victory. The final time for the seven-furlong contest for Florida-breds was 1:22.33.
We’re All Set, with Tyler Gaffalione aboard, was narrowly in front of 4-5 Grande Shores heading into the turn, but squeezed his rival and forced the favorite to take up sharply. Though We’re All Set crossed the line in second, he was disqualified and Grande Shores was moved up to complete a $17.60 exacta.
Yourdreamsormine was previously campaigned by Ione Elkins and trainer Bill Kaplan, for whom he scored a 35-1 surprise last summer in the $150,000 Florida Sire Unbridled Stakes at Gulfstream. When Kaplan announced his retirement in early April, Yourdreamsormine found his way Wolfson’s barn.
“Bill said, ‘Just take him back to last,’” Wolfson offered. “It didn’t quite work that way, but we did get lucky. Those two went out in front and killed each other. He’s such a game horse. I didn’t know that much about him when I got him, but everybody turned him down when they wanted to sell him. I thought I’d take a shot, so I feel like I just won the Kentucky Derby. ”
Bred in Ocala by Bridlewood Farm, the son of Mr. Sekiguchi won for the fourth time in 23 career starts and took his earnings to $241,750 in the Bull Gator. He began the year with a ninth in the $250,000 Sunshine Millions Classic before finishing a close fourth in an optional claiming test on February 7. In his most recent start, Yourdreamsormine finished third as the favorite in a $30,000 claimer on April 3 at Gulfstream Park.
