Alfred and Filippo Rizzo’s Y to Kat moved for the lead nearing the quarter pole and held off Pinot Grigio in the lane to capture the $55,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Friday by a length.

Trained by Ramon Moya, Y to Kat covered the six furlongs over a fast main track in 1:10 3/5 and returned $7, $3.80 and $3.40 as the second choice in the field of seven New Jersey-bred fillies and mares.  Pinot Grigio, the post-time favorite, completed the $22.80 exacta and paid $3.40 and $2.80.  It was another 2 ½ lengths back to Hotnslick, who rallied to pay $6.20 to show.

“He broke alright, but we got good position which was the biggest thing,” said winning jockey Ramon Moya, son of the trainer.  “I asked him to move when they started pressuring me on the outside.  From there, the race just played out the way we wanted.”

A 6-year-old by Turnofthecentury from the Tabasco Cat mare Sweet Cali Cat, Y to Kat sports a record of 6-2-3 from 32 lifetime starts, all at Monmouth Park.
