Xpressbet Donating Assiniboia Wagers to Alyssa Selman Trust
On Saturday, July 18, Xpressbet will donate all proceeds generated as a result of its customers wagering on Assiniboia Downs to the Trust of jockey, Alyssa Selman, who was severely injured in a race earlier this summer. Selman, a 29-year old mother of two, remains paralyzed from the waist down and is receiving care at Winnipeg’s Health Sciences Centre.
Selman was injured on Saturday, June 27 in Assiniboia’s 6th race when her mount, Lord Jasmond, clipped heels and fell, throwing Alyssa to the track. She suffered a severe back injury and underwent surgery for a fractured T5 vertebra and damaged spinal cord. She continues to make steady progress, however her road to recovery will be long and difficult. Her mother cautioned that doctors have warned her that Alyssa may never walk again.
“We were very touched to learn about Alyssa’s story and we are committed to helping in any way we can,” said Xpressbet President, Ron Luniewski. “Alyssa is in our thoughts and our entire organization is pulling for her to make a full recovery. We urge our customers to consider donating to Alyssa’s Trust, and hope they’ll consider playing the races from Assiniboia on July 18 as all proceeds will go directly to her Trust.”
Xpressbet is a proud partner and supporter of the Jockeys’ Guild and Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund, which currently provides financial assistance to 60 former jockeys who suffered catastrophic on-track injuries.
A Go Fund Me page was set up on Alyssa’s behalf by Assiniboia Downs through which donations are currently pouring in. To make a donation, please visit http://www.gofundme.com/
First post at Assiniboia Downs on Saturday, July 18 is 8:00PM ET. The track’s Wager Menu features 20-cent Trifecta, Superfecta, Pick 3 and Pick 4 wagering, and they also offer a 20-cent Jackpot Super High 5, which currently has a $4,423 carryover.
