Rockingham Ranch and Gelfenstein Farm’s X Y Jet, impressive winner of the Dubai Golden Shaheen (G1) last March, has resumed training with a goal of competing in some lucrative 2020 sprints.
On Thursday morning, Rockingham Ranch took to Twitter to announce that X Y Jet was back in training, and that “if he’s ready in time, we are seriously thinking of running him in the Saudi Cup Sprint and Golden Shaheen.”
X Y Jet, a 7-year-old gelding by Kantharos, has not raced since taking the Dubai Golden Shaheen in March. The victory was the first Grade/Group 1 win for X Y Jet, who had twice finished second in that race.
If all goes according to plan, X Y Jet will look to defend his title in the Golden Shaheen, with a start in the inaugural $1.5 million Saudi Cup Sprint on Feb. 29 also on the schedule.
The Saudi Cup Sprint, at six furlongs, is one of five undercard stakes races that will lead up to the $20 million Saudi Cup. The 1 1/8-mile Saudi Cup will be held at King Abdulaziz Racetrack in Riyadh.
Jorge Navarro trains X Y Jet, who has won 12 of 25 starts, earned more than $3 million and has overcome multiple knee surgeries to run at the top level.
