World racehorse rankings: Sovereignty, Fierceness are in top 10
Sovereignty and Fierceness, who will meet in the Nov. 1 Breeders' Cup Classic, were the only U.S.-based horses in the top 10 of the latest rankings of the world's best racehorses.
Sovereignty, winner of the Kentucky Derby, Belmont Stakes and Grade 1 Travers this year, is in a four-way tie for no. 2 in the rankings. Forever Young, also headed to the Classic, also is in the tie for second.
Fierceness, winner of the Pacific Classic (G1) last out, is in a four-way tie for ninth.
Ombudsman remained the top-ranked horse on the list. He won the Juddmonte International (G1) on Aug. 20 in his most recent start, then skipped the Irish Champion Stakes (G1) to be freshened for the Breeders' Cup Turf.
Daryz joined the rankings in a tie for no. 2 after his win in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (G1) on Sunday. With the win, the 3-year-old colt earned an automatic berth in the Breeders’ Cup Turf.
The rankings are compiled by the world’s best racehorse rankings committee and published by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities.
