Works tab: Distaff sprint champ Goodnight Olive preps for return

Reigning champion female sprinter Goodnight Olive continued preparations for her return to the races on Friday, one of 15 graded stakes winners to record timed workouts on the day.

The daughter of Ghostzapper, a two-time Grade 1 winner, including the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, worked four furlongs in 50.6 seconds at Payson Park Training Center. It was the 37th fastest of 42 works at the distance.

The work was the third at Payson Park for the Chad Brown-trained 5-year-old, who also captured the 2022 Ballerina Handicap (G1) at Saratoga, since she recorded her first timed workout on Jan. 27 for her return to the races.

Brown has not yet identified a target race for her comeback.

In Italian (Dubawi), a two-time Grade 1 winner (2022 First Lady, 2022 Diana), worked three furlongs in 37.8 seconds at Payson Park. It was the fastest of 11 works at the distance. Her previous work was seven days ago going three furlongs at Payson Park. In her last start she placed second in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1) going 1 3/16 miles on the turf at Keeneland on Nov. 5 for Brown.

Matareya (Pioneerof the Nile), a Grade 1 winner (2022 Acorn), worked four furlongs in 48.8 seconds at Fair Grounds. It was the 16th fastest of 89 works at the distance. Her previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Fair Grounds. In her last start she placed third in the Test (G1) going seven furlongs on the main track at Saratoga on Aug. 6 for trainer Brad Cox.

Forbidden Kingdom (American Pharoah), a two-time Grade 2 winner (2022 San Felipe, 2022 San Vicente), worked five furlongs in 1:01.2 at Santa Anita. It was the 25th fastest of 46 works at the distance. His previous work was 13 days ago going four furlongs at Santa Anita Park. In his last start he placed second in the Malibu (G1) going seven furlongs on the main track at Santa Anita Park on Dec. 26 for trainer Richard Mandella.

Interstatedaydream (Classic Empire), a Grade 2 winner (2022 Black-Eyed Susan), worked five furlongs in 1:01.6 at Fair Grounds. It was the 18th fastest of 41 works at the distance. Her previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Fair Grounds. In her last start she placed second in the Cathryn Sophia going one mile 70 yards on the main track at Parx Racing on Aug. 23 for Cox.

Gam's Mission (Noble Mission), a two-time Grade 3 winner (2022 Mint Julep, 2021 Regret), worked four furlongs in 48.0 seconds on turf at Palm Meadows. It was the third fastest of 56 works at the distance. Her previous work was 12 days ago going four furlongs at Palm Meadows. In her last start she won the Mint Julep (G3) going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Churchill Downs on June 5 for trainer Cherie DeVaux.

Last Samurai (Malibu Moon), a Grade 2 winner (2022 Oaklawn H.) worked four furlongs in 51.0 seconds at Oaklawn Park. It was the 39th fastest of 48 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed fourth in the Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 28 for trainer D. Wayne Lukas.

Award Winner (Ghostzapper), a Grade 2 winner (2021 Charles Whittingham), worked five furlongs in 1:03.2 at Santa Anita Park. It was the slowest of 46 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start he placed fourth in the Hollywood Turf Cup (G2) going 1 1/2 miles on the turf at Del Mar on Nov. 26 for trainer David Hofmans.

Happy Farm (Ghostzapper), a Grade 3 winner (2019 Fall Highweight), worked four furlongs in 47.8 seconds at Belmont Park. It was the third fastest of 69 works at the distance. His previous work was eight days ago going four furlongs at Belmont Park. In his last start he placed second in an allowance race going six furlongs on the main track at Aqueduct on Jan. 22 for trainer Michael Miceli.

Battle Bling (Vancouver), a Grade 3 winner (2022 Turnback the Alarm H.), worked four furlongs in 49.0 seconds at Belmont Park. It was the 22nd fastest of 69 works at the distance. Her previous work was eight days ago going four furlongs at Belmont Park. In her last start she placed second in the Ladies going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Aqueduct on Jan. 1 for trainer Rob Atras.

Happy American (Runhappy), a Grade 3 winner (2023 Louisiana), worked five furlongs in 1:02.8 at Fair Grounds. It was the 33rd fastest of 41 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he won the Louisiana (G3) going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Fair Grounds on Jan. 21 for trainer Neil Pessin.

Cavalry Charge (Honor Code), a Grade 3 winner (2022 Fair Grounds), worked five furlongs in 1:01.4 at Fair Grounds. It was the 12th fastest of 41 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Fair Grounds. In his last start he placed eighth in the Mint Million (G3) going one mile on the turf at Kentucky Downs on Sept. 10 for trainer Dallas Stewart.

Faith in Humanity (Lope de Vega), a Grade 3 winner (2022 Pebbles), worked four furlongs in 49.4 seconds on turf at Payson Park. It was the fifth fastest of six works at the distance. Her previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Payson Park. In her last start she won thePebbles (G3) going one mile on the turf at Belmont At The Big A on Sept. 18 for Brown.

Rougir (Territories), a Grade 3 winner (2022 Beaugay), worked four furlongs in 50.4 seconds at Payson Park. It was the 33rd fastest of 42 works at the distance. Her previous work was seven days ago going three furlongs at Payson Park. In her last start she placed 11th in the  Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf going 1 3/16 miles on the turf at Keeneland on Nov. 5 for Brown.

Comanche Country (Highland Reel), a Grade 3 winner (2022 Surfer Girl), worked four furlongs in 50.4 seconds at Santa Anita. It was the 12th fastest of 16 works at the distance. Her previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Santa Anita. In her last start she placed seventh in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf going one mile on the turf at Keeneland on Nov. 4 for trainer Philip D'Amato.
