Works tab: Elite Power drills ahead of possible start in Met Mile
Elite Power, last year's champion sprinter in North America, continued to work toward his 2023 stateside debut on Saturday with a four furlong work in 49.8 seconds at Churchill Downs.
The work for the 5-year-old Bill Mott-trained son of Curlin, winner of the 2022 Breeders' Cup Sprint and the 2023 Riyadh Dirt Sprint (G3) going about six furlongs at King Abdulaziz Racecourse in Saudi Arabia on Feb. 25, was the 32nd fastest of 50 works at the distance.
It was the third work for Elite Power since he recorded his first timed workout since the Riyadh race on April 17 at Churchill Downs.
Daily Racing Form reported this week that Mott was aiming Elite Power at either the Metropolitan Mile (G1) or the True North (G2) on the Belmont Stakes undercard on June 10.
