Tuesday tab: Echo Zulu continues to work toward 2023 debut
Echo Zulu, a three-time Grade 1 winner and champion juvenile filly of 2021, worked five furlongs Tuesday at Churchill Downs as she continued preparations for her 2023 debut.
The 4-year-old daughter of Gun Runner out of the Menifee mare Letgomyecho traveled five furlongs in 1:02.0 for Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen. It was the 12th fastest of 15 works at the distance.
It was the longest of five timed workouts since she returned to the work tab on March 27 at Fair Grounds.
Asmussen has not identified a target for her return to the races after her second-place finish in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint on Nov. 5 at Keeneland.
Nine other graded-stakes winners recorded timed workouts on Tuesday at North American tracks.
Tribhuvan (Toronado), a two-time Grade 1 winner (2022 Manhattan 2021, United Nations), worked four furlongs in 50.0 seconds at Belmont Park on Tuesday morning. It was the 37th fastest of 64 works at the distance. His previous work was nine days ago going four furlongs at Payson Park. In his last start he placed sixth in the Sword Dancer (G1) going 1 1/2 miles on the turf at Saratoga on Aug. 27 for trainer Chad Brown.
Kathleen O. (Upstart), a two-time Grade 2 winner (2022 Gulfstream Park Oaks, 2022 Davona Dale ), worked three furlongs in 36.7 seconds at Belmont Park on Tuesday morning. It was the fifth fastest of 10 works at the distance. Her previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Belmont Park. In her last start she placed second in the Top Flight going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Aqueduct on April 2 for trainer Shug McGaughey.
Therapist (Freud), a Grade 2 winner (2023 Pan American), worked five furlongs in 1:01.8 at Churchill Training on Tuesday morning. It was the sixth fastest of eight works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Churchill Training. In his last start he placed first in the Pan American (G2) going 1 1/2 miles on the turf at Gulfstream Park on April 1 for trainer Mike Maker.
