Works tab: Colonel Liam continues preparations for comeback
Multiple Grade 1 winner Colonel Liam continued his preparations for a return to the races Friday, working five furlongs in 1:01.2 at Palm Beach Downs.
The move by the 5-year-old son of Liam's Map, who trained by Todd Pletcher, was the fastest of six works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Palm Beach Downs. In his last start he placed ninth in the Dubai Turf (G1) going 1 1/8 miles at Meydan Racecourse on March 26.
Colonel Liam has won the last two runnings of the Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational (G1) at Gulfstream Park as well as the 2021 Turf Classic Stakes (G1) at Churchill Downs.
Pletcher has not yet said if Colonel Liam will attempt to defend his title for a second time in the Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational on Jan. 28.
