Works tab: Colonel Liam continues preparations for comeback

Multiple Grade 1 winner Colonel Liam continued his preparations for a return to the races Friday, working five furlongs in 1:01.2 at Palm Beach Downs.

The move by the 5-year-old son of Liam's Map, who trained by Todd Pletcher, was the fastest of six works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Palm Beach Downs. In his last start he placed ninth in the Dubai Turf (G1) going 1 1/8 miles at Meydan Racecourse on March 26.

Colonel Liam has won the last two runnings of the Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational (G1) at Gulfstream Park as well as the 2021 Turf Classic Stakes (G1) at Churchill Downs. 

Pletcher has not yet said if Colonel Liam will attempt to defend his title for a second time in the Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational on Jan. 28.

In Love (Agnes Gold), a Grade 1 winner (2021 Keeneland Turf Mile), worked four furlongs in 51.8 seconds at The Thoroughbred Center on Friday morning. It was the 73rd fastest of 80 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed third in the River City H. going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Churchill Downs on Nov. 13 for trainer Paulo H. Lobo.

Manny Wah (Will Take Charge), a Grade 2 winner (2022 Phoenix), worked four furlongs in 48.8 seconds at Fair Grounds on Friday morning. It was the sixth fastest of 52 works at the distance. His previous work was nine days ago going four furlongs at Keeneland. In his last start he placed fourth in the Breeders' Cup Sprint going six furlongs on the main track at Keeneland on Nov. 5 for trainer Wayne M. Catalano.

Andthewinneris (Oscar Performance), a Grade 2 winner (2022 Castle & Key Bourbon), worked four furlongs in 50.4 seconds at Fair Grounds on Friday morning. It was the 33rd fastest of 52 works at the distance. His previous work was nine days ago going four furlongs at Keeneland. In his last start he placed seventh in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf going 1 mile on the turf at Keeneland on Nov. 4 for Catalano.

Delight (Mendelssohn), a Grade 2 winner (2022 JPMorgan Chase Jessamine), worked four furlongs in 49.8 seconds on turf at Palm Meadows on Friday morning. It was the 17th fastest of 39 works at the distance. Her previous work was six days ago going four furlongs at Palm Meadows. In her last start she placed 10th in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf going one mile on the turf at Keeneland on Nov. 4 for trainer Jonathan Thomas.

Devamani (Dubawi), a Grade 2 winner (2020 Knickerbocker), worked four furlongs in 49.5 seconds at Remington Park on Friday morning. It was the 14th fastest of 56 works at the distance. His previous work was 13 days ago going four furlongs at Remington Park. In his last start he placed third in a claiming race going one mile on the turf at Remington Park on Oct. 27 for trainer Robertino Diodoro.

Midnight Memories (Mastery), a Grade 2 winner (2022 Zenyatta), worked seven furlongs in 1:25.4 at Santa Anita on Friday morning. It was the second fastest of two works at the distance. Her previous work was six days ago going six furlongs at Santa Anita. In her last start she won the Zenyatta (G2) going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Santa Anita Park on Oct. 2 for trainer Bob Baffert.

Packs a Wahlop (Creative Cause), a two-time Grade 3 winner (2022 Zuma Beach, 2022 Del Mar Juvenile Turf), worked six furlongs in 1:13.4 at Santa Anita Park on Friday morning. It was the second fastest of three works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Santa Anita Park.
