Works report: Secret Oath continues training toward Azeri

Kentucky Oaks winner Secret Oath worked Monday morning at Oaklawn, continuing her preparation for her 4-year-old debut. The D. Wayne Lukas trainee covered five furlongs in 1:01.8, fifth fastest of 17 to drill that distance. The strongest filly on the Oaklawn spur of the Kentucky Oaks trail in 2022, she is expected to make her 4-year-old debut in the Grade 2 Azeri on March 11.

Monday's workers also included Scaramouche, breezing for the first time since his last race. He tried the lawn in the Janus at Gulfstream on Dec. 24 but finished eighth behind Belgrano. He showed more on dirt, winning the Gallant Bob (G2) and coming third in the Steel Valley Sprint in 2022. The 4-year-old Guadalupe Preciado trainee went four furlongs in 49.4 seconds at Gulfstream, sixth fastest of 15 drills at the distance.

Gunite (Gun Runner), a Grade 1 winner (2021 Hopeful), worked five furlongs in 58.6 seconds at Fair Grounds on Monday morning. It was the second fastest of 26 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Fair Grounds. In his last start he placed fourth in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile going one mile on the main track at Keeneland on Nov. 5 for trainer Steve Asmussen.

Secret Oath (Arrogate), a Grade 1 winner (2022 Kentucky Oaks), worked five furlongs in 1:01.8 at Oaklawn on Monday morning. It was the fifth fastest of 17 works at the distance. Her previous work was eight days ago going four furlongs at Oaklawn. In her last start she placed fifth in the Breeders' Cup Distaff going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Keeneland on Nov. 5 for trainer D. Wayne Lukas.

Gerrymander (Into Mischief), a Grade 2 winner (2022 Mother Goose), worked three furlongs in 37.2 seconds at Payson Park on Monday morning. It was the third fastest of 23 works at the distance. Her previous work was eight days ago going three furlongs at Payson Park. In her last start she placed eighth in the Cotillion (G1) going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Parx Racing on Sep. 24 for trainer Chad Brown.

Long Range Toddy (Take Charge Indy), a Grade 2 winner (2019 Rebel), worked four furlongs in 49.0 seconds at Oaklawn on Monday morning. It was the 10th fastest of 63 works at the distance. His previous work was eight days ago going four furlongs at Oaklawn. In his last start he placed sixth in the Ring The Bell going six furlongs on the main track at Oaklawn on Dec. 10 for trainer Dallas Stewart.

Scaramouche (Munnings), a Grade 2 winner (2022 Gallant Bob), worked four furlongs in 49.4 seconds at Gulfstream Park on Monday morning. It was the sixth fastest of 15 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed eighth in the Janus going five furlongs on the turf at Gulfstream Park on Dec. 24 for trainer Guadalupe Preciado.

Speak of the Devil (Wootton Bassett), a Grade 2 winner (2022 Churchill Distaff Turf Mile), worked three furlongs in 39.8 seconds at Payson Park on Monday morning. It was the 23rd fastest of 23 works at the distance. Her previous work was eight days ago going three furlongs at Payson Park. In her last start she placed fourth in the Just a Game (G1) going one mile on the turf at Belmont Park on June 11 for trainer Chad Brown.
