Works report: Hopeful contender Booked leads Monday tab
Booked, one of the leading 2-year-olds of 2026, returned to the work tab Monday with a six-furlong drill at Saratoga. The Steve Asmussen trainee worked for the second time since his runner-up finish behind Twinkle Town in the Grade 2 Saratoga Special on Aug. 1. He got away a little slowly and chased in second throughout behind the gate-to-wire winner.
Booked, an Indiana-bred son of Yaupon, turned heads when he broke his maiden on June 7 at Saratoga. He then franked that form on July 4 in the Sanford (G3), when he took the early lead and romped by six lengths. According to a New York Racing Association news release on Saturday, Asmussen plans to enter Booked next in the Hopeful (G1), a seven-furlong race at Saratoga on Sept. 6

Booked (Yaupon), a Grade 3 winner (2026 Sanford), worked five furlongs in 1:02.0 at Saratoga on Monday morning. It was the third fastest of six works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Saratoga. In his last start, he placed second in the Saratoga Special (G2) going 6 1/2 furlongs on the main track at Saratoga on Aug. 1 for trainer Steve Asmussen.
Hill Road (Quality Road), a Grade 3 winner (2025 Peter Pan), worked four furlongs in 50.3 seconds at Saratoga on Monday morning. It was the 20th fastest of 30 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going three furlongs at Saratoga. In his last start, he placed 10th in the Breeders' Cup Turf going 1 1/2 miles on the turf at Del Mar on Nov. 1 for trainer Chad Brown.
Midnight Mammoth (Midnight Lute), a Grade 3 winner (2024 Cougar II), worked six furlongs in 1:13.6 at Del Mar on Monday morning. It was the fifth fastest of six works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Del Mar. In his last start, he placed eighth in an allowance race going one mile on the main track at Del Mar on July 25 for trainer Craig Dollase.
War At Sea (War Front), a Grade 3 winner (2023 Golden Gate Handicap), worked four furlongs in 48.0 seconds at Del Mar on Monday morning. It was the 10th fastest of 42 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Del Mar. In his last start, he placed third in an allowance race going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Del Mar on July 17 for trainer Ron Ellis.
