Works report: Goodnight Olive returns to tab after Madison score

Reigning female sprint champ Goodnight Olive returned to the work tab on Friday for the first time since she captured her 2023 debut in the Madison (G1) at Keeneland on April 8.

The 5-year-old daughter of Ghostzapper, a three-time Grade 1 winner for trainer Chad Brown and owners First Row Partners and Team Hanley, worked four furlongs in 48.8 seconds at Keeneland on Friday morning. It was the 23rd fastest of 83 works at the distance.

In addition to the Madison, Goodnight Olive captured the 2022 Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint at Keeneland and the Ballerina at Saratoga, both Grade 1s. She has won seven of eight starts and amassed earnings of nearly $1.4 million.

Brown has not identified a target for Goodnight Olive's next race, but Steve Laymon, who manages First Row Partners, told Horse Racing Nation prior to the Madison that the seven-furlong Derby City Distaff (G1), part of the Kentucky Derby undercard, would be considered for her second start.

It was the second fastest of eight works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Payson Park. And Tell Me Nolies (Arrogate), a Grade 1 winner (2022 Del Mar Debutante), worked five furlongs in 1:01.2 at San Luis Rey Training Center on Friday morning. It was the fastest of two works at the distance. This was her first work since her last race.
