Works report: 40 graded-stakes winners drill Saturday morning

40 graded-stakes winners appeared on the work tab on Saturday morning. Among them were a pair of Chad Brown's turf stars, who each returned breeze for the first time since Grade 1 outings last year.

In Italian emerged as the strong new face in the older-mare grass division after winnning both the First Lady (G1) and the Diana (G1) in 2022 She went three furlongs in 38.8 seconds at Payson Park. It was her first drill since finishing second to Tuesday in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf.

Her stablemate McKulick worked a bullet three furlongs in 38.4 seconds at Payson Park. It was McKulick's first workout since she ran second to Gina Romantica in the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup (G1). She starred in New York's series for sophomore turf fillies last year, winning the Belmont Oaks (G1) and Jockey Club Oaks (G3), and also finishing second to With the Moonlight in the Saratoga Oaks (G3).

Blazing Sevens (Good Magic), a Grade 1 winner (2022 Champagne), worked three furlongs in 38.8 seconds at Payson Park on Saturday morning. It was the 12th fastest of 20 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going three furlongs at Payson Park. In his last start he placed fourth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Keeneland on Nov. 4 for trainer Chad Brown.

Express Train (Union Rags), a Grade 1 winner (2022 Santa Anita Handicap), worked four furlongs in 50.0 seconds at Santa Anita on Saturday morning. It was the 56th fastest of 72 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start he placed fourth in the Awesome Again (G1) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Santa Anita on Oct. 1 for trainer John Shirreffs.

Hit the Road (More Than Ready), a Grade 1 winner (2021 Frank E. Kilroe Mile), worked four furlongs in 48.2 seconds at Santa Anita on Saturday morning. It was the 10th fastest of 72 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start he placed 10th in the Joe Hernandez (G2) going 6 1/2 furlongs on the turf at Santa Anita on Dec. 31 for trainer Dan Blacker.

McKulick (Frankel), a Grade 1 winner (2022 Belmont Oaks Invitational), worked three furlongs in 38.4 seconds at Payson Park on Saturday morning. It was the ninth fastest of 20 works at the distance. This was her first work since her last race. In her last start she placed second in the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup (G1) going 1 1/8 miles on the turf at Keeneland on Oct. 15 for trainer Chad Brown.

Rich Strike (Keen Ice), a Grade 1 winner (2022 Kentucky Derby), worked five furlongs in 1:03.1 at Mercury Equine Center on Saturday morning. It was the fastest of 22 works at the distance.
