Sovereignty worked a half-mile at Del Mar on Monday ahead of Saturday's start as the likely favorite in the Breeders' Cup Classic.

Trained by Bill Mott, the winner of this year's Kentucky Derby, Belmont Stakes and Grade 1 Travers went a comfortable four furlongs in 49.8 seconds, slowest of five at the distance.

“He went well, we were happy with him,” trainer Bill Mott told the Del Mar media team afterward. “All of the other trainers call it a maintenance work, so I guess we can say it.”

Sovereignty was listed as the 8-5 favorite in the Breeders’ Cup Classic futures odds showing Sunday night on the Westgate betting app in Nevada. The Into Mischief colt had been working at Saratoga after his 10-length win in the Travers, most recently breezing five furlongs in 1:01.39.

Scylla, who is pointed to the Breeders' Cup Distaff, also worked Monday at Del Mar for Mott. She went four furlongs in 46.6 seconds, fastest at the distance. The 5-year-old Tapit mare has a 5: 0-2-2 record this year, all in graded stakes.
