Works: Shisospicy tunes up for Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint
Shisospicy continued her preparations for the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint at Del Mar on Nov. 1 by working a half-mile on Wednesday over the fast main track at Keeneland.
Working on her own at 7:30 a.m. with jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. up, Shisospicy produced splits of 11.8 seconds, 24.0 seconds and 36.2 seconds before stopping the timer in 47.4 seconds. She galloped out five-eighths in 59.8 seconds, the three-quarters in 1:12.4 and seven-eighths in 1:26.4.
The work was the second fastest of 25 works at the distance. Her previous work was 12 days ago going three furlongs at Keeneland.
Jose D’Angelo trains the 3-year-old daughter of Mitole, who was a 3-length winner of the Music City (G2) at Kentucky Downs in her most recent start. A Keeneland sales graduate, Shisospicy is expected to have one more work here before heading to Del Mar on Oct. 27.
Shisospicy was one of eight graded-stakes winners recording timed workouts at U.S. and Canadian racetracks and training centers. The others were:
Bottas (Vekoma), a Grade 2 winner (2025 Pilgrim), worked five furlongs in 1:03.8 at Saratoga on Wednesday morning. It was the slowest of four works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he won the Pilgrim (G2) going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Belmont at the Big A on Oct. 3 for trainer Miguel Clement.
One Timer (Trappe Shot), a Grade 2 winner (2022 Franklin-Simpson), worked four furlongs in 49.0 seconds at Hawthorne on Wednesday morning. It was the fastest of three works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed third in an allowance race going five furlongs on the turf at Hawthorne on Sept. 18 for trainer Larry Rivelli.
Poster (Munnings), a Grade 2 winner (2024 Remsen), worked five furlongs in 1:01.8 at Turfway Park on Wednesday morning. It was the sixth fastest of nine works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Turfway Park. In his last start he placed fourth in the Jeff Ruby Steaks (G3) going 1 1/8 miles on the synthetic at Turfway Park on March 22 for trainer Eoin Harty.
Nic's Style (Uncaptured), a Grade 3 winner (2025 Hurricane Bertie), worked four furlongs in 50.0 seconds at Belmont Park on Wednesday morning. It was the 28th fastest of 58 works at the distance. Her previous work was 17 days ago going four furlongs at Saratoga. In her last start she won the Hurricane Bertie (G3) going 6 1/2 furlongs on the main track at Gulfstream Park on March 8 for trainer Bill Mott.
Red Flag (Tamarkuz), a Grade 3 winner (2020 Bob Hope), worked four furlongs in 49.6 seconds at Santa Anita on Wednesday morning. It was the fastest of four works at the distance. His previous work was nine days ago going four furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start he placed fourth in an allowance race going six furlongs on the main track at Del Mar on Aug. 24 for trainer Bob Hess Jr.
Senbei (Candy Ride), a Grade 3 winner (2024 Belmont Turf Sprint), worked four furlongs in 51.5 seconds at Belmont Park on Wednesday morning. It was the 51st fastest of 58 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed fourth in the Belmont Turf Sprint (G3) going six furlongs on the turf at Belmont at the Big A on Sept. 27 for trainer Miguel Clement.
Spiced Up (Quality Road), a Grade 3 winner (2025 Mahony), worked four furlongs in 50.0 seconds at Belmont Park on Wednesday morning. It was the 28th fastest of 58 works at the distance. His previous work was 10 days ago going four furlongs at Belmont Park. In his last start he placed 12th in the Franklin-Simpson (G1) going 6 1/2 furlongs on the turf at Kentucky Downs on Sept. 6 for trainer Bill Mott.
