Works: Masteroffoxhounds tops tab of graded-stakes winners

Two-time Grade 2 winner Masteroffoxhounds worked four furlongs on Wednesday at the Churchill Downs Training Center as the 8-year-old seeks to rebound from a subpar effort in his last race.

The son of War Front, owned and trained by David Jacobson, worked four furlongs in 50.0, the eighth-fastest of 12 works at the distance. His last work was four days ago at the same distance at Churchill Training. 

The winner of the 2022 John Henry Turf Championship and 2021 San Marcos when under the care of Richard Baltas, finished 11th in an allowance race going 1 1/2 miles on the turf at Kentucky Downs on Sept. 4 for Jacobson. It was not immediately clear where Masteroffoxhounds would race next.

Masteroffoxhounds was one of 11 graded-stakes runners recording timed workouts at North American tracks and training centers on Wednesday. The others were:

Bottas (Vekoma), a Grade 2 winner (2025 Pilgrim), worked five furlongs in 1:03.2 on turf at Saratoga on Wednesday morning. It was the fastest of four works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Saratoga. In his last start he won the Pilgrim (G2) going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Belmont at the Big A on Oct. 3 for trainer Miguel Clement.

Mad House (Vekoma), a Grade 2 winner (2025 Gallant Bob), worked four furlongs in 47.1 seconds at Palm Meadows on Wednesday morning. It was the fastest of eight works at the distance. His previous work was 11 days ago going four furlongs at Palm Meadows. In his last start he won the Gallant Bob (G2) going six furlongs on the main track at Parx on Sept. 20 for trainer David VanWinkle.

One Timer (Trappe Shot), a Grade 2 winner (2022 Franklin-Simpson), worked four furlongs in 50.4 seconds at Hawthorne on Wednesday morning. It was the 13th fastest of 26 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Hawthorne. In his last start he placed third in an allowance race going five furlongs on the turf at Hawthorne on Sept. 18 for trainer Larry Rivelli.

Ozara (Lope de Vega), a Grade 2 winner (2025 Ballston Spa), worked five furlongs in 1:03.5 on turf at Saratoga on Wednesday morning. It was the third fastest of four works at the distance. This was her first work since her last race. In her last start she placed eighth in the First Lady (G1) going one mile on the turf at Keeneland on Oct. 4 for trainer Miguel Clement.

Scythian (Tiz the Law), a Grade 2 winner (2024 Miss Grillo), worked four furlongs in 48.2 seconds at Belmont Park on Wednesday morning. It was the fastest of 16 works at the distance. This was her first work since her last race. In her last start she placed third in an allowance race going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Belmont at the Big A on Oct. 9 for trainer Bill Mott.

Tawny Port (Pioneerof the Nile), a two-time Grade 3 winner (2022 Ohio Derby, 2022 Lexington), worked five furlongs in 1:03.2 on turf at Saratoga on Wednesday morning. It was the fastest of four works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed second in the Canadian International (G1) going 1 1/2 miles on the turf at Woodbine on Oct. 4 for trainer Miguel Clement.

Background (Khozan), a Grade 3 winner (2021 Longacres Mile Handicap), worked four furlongs in 52.2 seconds at Turfway Park on Wednesday morning. It was the slowest of 22 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed third in a claiming race going seven furlongs on the main track at Keeneland on Oct. 12 for trainer Steve Asmussen.

Coastal Mission (Great Notion), a Grade 3 winner (2024 Forty Niner), worked three furlongs in 36.6 seconds at Charles Town on Wednesday morning. It was the second fastest of five works at the distance. His previous work was 12 days ago going four furlongs at Charles Town. In his last start he placed third in the Parx Dirt Mile going one mile on the main track at Parx on Sept. 20 for trainer Jeff Runco.

Cornishman (Curlin), a Grade 3 winner (2025 Prairie Meadows Cornhusker Handicap), worked four furlongs in 47.2 seconds at Zia Park on Wednesday morning. It was the faster of two works at the distance. His previous work was six days ago going three furlongs at Zia Park. In his last start he placed fifth in the West Virginia Governor's going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Mountaineer on Aug. 3 for trainer Dan McFarlane.

Happy American (Runhappy), a Grade 3 winner (2023 Louisiana), worked four furlongs in 49.6 seconds at Churchill Training on Wednesday morning. It was the third fastest of 12 works at the distance. His previous work was four days ago going four furlongs at Churchill Training. In his last start he placed ninth in the St. Matthews Overnight going six furlongs on the main track at Churchill Downs on May 1 for trainer David Jacobson.
