Works: BC Classic-bound Highland Falls is 1 of 19 graded winners

With the Breeders’ Cup Classic in his not-too-distant future, Highland Falls returned to the work tab Friday morning at Churchill Downs.

The 4-year-old Godolphin homebred colt by Curlin went a half-mile in 48.6 seconds for trainer Brad Cox. It was the second workout for Highland Falls since he won the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup on Sept. 1 at Saratoga. He is training up to the $7 million Classic on Nov. 2 at Del Mar.

Tamara (Bolt d’Oro), a Grade 1 winner (2023 Del Mar Debutante), worked four furlongs in 48.6 seconds at Santa Anita. It was the 22nd fastest of 44 works at the distance. Her previous work was 27 days ago going three furlongs at Del Mar. In her last start she placed seventh in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Santa Anita on Nov. 3 for trainer Richard Mandella.

Public Sector (Kingman), a two-time Grade 2 winner (2021 Hill Prince, 2021 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame), worked three furlongs in 39.6 seconds at Palm Meadows. It was the 17th fastest of 20 works at the distance. His previous work was six days ago going three furlongs at Palm Meadows. Julia Shining (Curlin), a Grade 2 winner (2022 Demoiselle), worked four furlongs in 50.7 seconds at Saratoga. It was the 23rd fastest of 30 works at the distance.
