Works: Proxy preps for Pegasus; 32 graded winners breeze

Seven weeks after he won the Clark Stakes (G1), Proxy had his fastest workout since he started being prepared for this month’s Grade 1, $3 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational.

The now 5-year-old Tapit horse was clocked at 1:00.0 going five furlongs, the second fastest work at that distance Saturday morning on the Fair Grounds main track.

Trained by Michael Stidham, Proxy had been clocked at 1:01.8 going the same five-eighths of a mile in his last workout Dec. 27.

Headed for the Jan. 28 Pegasus at Gulfstream Park, Proxy was one of 32 graded-stakes winners who showed up on Saturday work tabs across the U.S.

Proxy (Tapit), a Grade 1 winner (2022 Clark), worked five furlongs in 1:00.0 at Fair Grounds on Saturday morning. It was the second fastest of 45 works at the distance. His previous work was 11 days ago going five furlongs at Fair Grounds. In his last start he won the Clark (G1) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Churchill Downs on Nov. 25 for trainer Michael Stidham.

Obligatory (Curlin), a Grade 1 winner (2022 Derby City Distaff), worked four furlongs in 51.4 seconds at Payson Park. It was the 50th fastest of 62 works at the distance. Her previous work was five days ago going three furlongs at Payson Park. In her last start she placed fifth in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint going seven furlongs on the main track at Keeneland on Nov. 5 for trainer Bill Mott.

Shantisara (Coulsty), a Grade 1 winner (2021 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup), worked four furlongs in 50.6 seconds at Payson Park. It was the 43rd fastest of 62 works at the distance. Her previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Payson Park. In her last start she placed fifth in the Fall Harvest going one mile on the turf at Keeneland on Nov. 5 for trainer Chad Brown.

Artie’s Princess (We Miss Artie), a Grade 2 winner (2022 Presque Isle Downs Masters), worked four furlongs in 48.9 seconds at Palm Meadows. It was the 44th fastest of 96 works at the distance. Her previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Palm Meadows. In her last start she placed sixth in the Bessarabian (G2) going seven furlongs on the synthetic at Woodbine on Nov. 12 for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr.

Emmanuel (More Than Ready), a Grade 2 winner (2022 Pennine Ridge), worked four furlongs in 48.8 seconds at Palm Beach Downs. It was the fifth fastest of 40 works at the distance. His previous work was 20 days ago going four furlongs at Palm Beach Downs. In his last start he placed 10th in the Saratoga Derby Invitational (G1) going 1 3/16 miles on the turf at Saratoga on Aug. 6 for trainer Todd Pletcher.

Ginóbili (Munnings), a Grade 2 winner (2021 Pat O’Brien), worked six furlongs in 1:11.0 at San Luis Rey. It was the only works at the distance. Stilleto Boy (Shackleford), a Grade 2 winner (2022 Californian), worked four furlongs in 51.2 seconds at Golden Gate Fields. It was the 28th fastest of 38 works at the distance.
