Workouts: Miller veterans are among 14 graded winners on tab

Ginóbili and C Z Rocket, two geldings who have combined to make 64 starts in their long careers, were back on the track Wednesday morning for their trainer Peter Miller.

Twelve days after they made their 2024 debuts at Santa Anita, 7-year-old Ginóbili and 10-year-old C Z Rocket had solo, half-mile breezes at San Luis Rey Downs. Ginóbili was clocked at a bullet 46.4 seconds and C Z Rocket at 48.0 seconds.

“Nothing yet,” Miller said when asked if there were races on the horizon for them. “But both are well.”

There were 14 graded-stakes winners who showed up on the U.S. work tab Wednesday:

Ginóbili (Munnings), a Grade 2 winner (2021 Pat O’Brien), worked four furlongs in 46.4 seconds at San Luis Rey on Wednesday morning. It was the fastest of seven works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed fifth in an allowance race going six furlongs on the main track at Santa Anita on Jan. 19 for trainer Peter Miller.

C Z Rocket (City Zip), a two-time Grade 2 winner (2020 Santa Anita Sprint Championship, 2020 Pat O’Brien), worked four furlongs in 48.0 seconds at San Luis Rey. It was the third fastest of seven works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed third in an allowance race going six furlongs on the main track at Santa Anita on Jan. 19 for Miller.

Planetario (Il Doge), a Grade 2 winner (2023 Hollywood Turf Cup), worked three furlongs in 37.0 seconds at Santa Anita. It was the 16th fastest of 25 works at the distance. His previous work was four days ago going six furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start he won the Hollywood Turf Cup (G2) going 1 1/2 miles on the turf at Del Mar on Nov. 24 for trainer Richard Mandella.

Salesman (Dubawi), a Grade 2 winner (2023 Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance), worked four furlongs in 46.0 seconds at Santa Anita. It was the fastest of 50 works at the distance. His previous work was 12 days ago going seven furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start he won the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (G2) going 1 5/8 miles on the main track at Santa Anita on Nov. 4 for Mandella.

Turnerloose (Nyquist), a Grade 2 winner (2022 Rachel Alexandra), worked three furlongs in 37.8 seconds at Santa Anita. It was the 22nd fastest of 25 works at the distance. This was her first work since her last race. In her last start she placed third in the Bayakoa (G3) going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Los Alamitos on Dec. 15 for trainer Phil D’Amato.

Window Shopping (American Pharoah), a Grade 2 winner (2023 Summertime Oaks), worked five furlongs in 1:00.4 at Santa Anita. It was the 21st fastest of 61 works at the distance. Her previous work was five days ago going four furlongs at Santa Anita. In her last start she placed fourth in the Zenyatta (G2) going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Santa Anita on Oct. 1 for trainer Richard Mandella.

Wow Whata Summer (Summer Front), a Grade 2 winner (2022 Penn Mile), worked four furlongs in 51.0 seconds at Fair Hill. It was the fourth fastest of six works at the distance. His previous work was 25 days ago going six furlongs at Fair Hill. In his last start he placed sixth in an allowance race going 1 1/4 miles on the synthetic at Turfway Park on Dec. 23 for trainer Chuckie Lawrence.

Background (Khozan), a Grade 3 winner (2021 Longacres Mile Handicap), worked three furlongs in 36.3 seconds at Pegasus Thoroughbred Training Center. It was the fastest of four works at the distance. His previous work was 164 days ago going four furlongs at Churchill Downs. In his last start he won an allowance race going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Ellis Park on July 15 for trainer Michael Puhich.

Bold Journey (Hard Spun), a Grade 3 winner (2023 Fall Highweight Handicap), worked four furlongs in 48.6 seconds at Payson Park. It was the only work at the distance. His previous work was 18 days ago going four furlongs at Payson Park. In his last start he won the Gravesend going six furlongs on the main track at Aqueduct on Dec. 30 for trainer Bill Mott.

Duke of Love (Cupid), a Grade 3 winner (2023 West Virginia Governor’s), worked three furlongs in 38.9 seconds at Palm Meadows. It was the third fastest of three works at the distance. His previous work was 117 days ago going five furlongs at Woodbine. In his last start he placed fifth in the Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) going 1 1/4 miles on the main track at Saratoga on Sept. 2 for trainer Josie Carroll.

English Bee (English Channel), a Grade 3 winner (2019 Commonwealth Derby), worked five furlongs in 1:03.8 on turf at Palm Meadows. It was the 11th fastest of 14 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Palm Meadows. In his last start he placed fifth in the Turf Mile (G1) going one mile on the turf at Keeneland on Oct. 7 for trainer Graham Motion.

Ice Dancing (Frosted), a Grade 3 winner (2023 Santa Ynez), worked five furlongs in 1:00.2 at Santa Anita. It was the 16th fastest of 61 works at the distance. Her previous work was four days ago going four furlongs at Santa Anita. In her last start she placed sixth in the La Brea (G1) going seven furlongs on the main track at Santa Anita on Dec. 26 for Mandella.

Maltese Falcon (Caravaggio), a Grade 3 winner (2023 La Jolla Handicap), worked four furlongs in 47.0 seconds at Santa Anita. It was the fourth fastest of 50 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed second in an allowance race going 1 1/8 miles on the turf at Santa Anita on Jan. 6 for trainer Leonard Powell.

Verbal (Flintshire), a Grade 3 winner (2021 Cecil B. DeMille), worked five furlongs in 1:03.2 at Turfway Park. It was the fifth fastest of 14 works at the distance. His previous work was six days ago going four furlongs at Turfway Park. In his last start he placed second in an allowance race going one mile on the synthetic at Turfway Park on Jan. 6 for trainer Brendan Walsh.
