Workouts: Clairière is 1 of 40 graded winners on Sunday tabs

Preparing to defend her 2022 victory in the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps next month at Belmont Park, Clairière turned in a bullet workout Sunday at Churchill Downs.

The 5-year-old Curlin mare was clocked at 59.6 seconds, the fastest time of the morning covering five furlongs on the fast, main track.

Trained by Steve Asmussen, Clairière could face Eclipse Award winner Nest and 2022 Kentucky Oaks winner Secret Oath in the 1 1/16-mile Ogden Phipps on the undercard of the June 10 Belmont Stakes.

Forty graded-stakes winners were on work tabs across the U.S. on Sunday.

Clairière (Curlin), a three-time Grade 1 winner (2023 Apple Blossom Handicap, 2022 Ogden Phipps, 2021 Cotillion), worked five furlongs in 59.6 seconds at Churchill Downs on Sunday morning. It was the fastest of 25 works at the distance. Her previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Churchill Downs. In Italian (Dubawi), a three-time Grade 1 winner (2023 Jenny Wiley, 2022 First Lady, 2022 Diana), worked five furlongs in 1:01.0 on turf at Belmont Park. It was the fourth fastest of nine works at the distance. Her previous work was six days ago going four furlongs at Belmont Park. In her last start she won the Jenny Wiley (G1) going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Keeneland on April 15 for trainer Chad Brown.

Dr. Schivel (Violence), a two-time Grade 1 winner (2021 Bing Crosby, 2020 Del Mar Futurity), worked four furlongs in 48.2 seconds at Santa Anita. It was the 12th fastest of 87 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he won an allowance race going six furlongs on the main track at Santa Anita on May 13 for trainer Mark Glatt.

Tribhuvan (Toronado), a two-time Grade 1 winner (2022 Manhattan, 2021 United Nations), worked four furlongs in 50.0 seconds at Belmont Park. It was the 38th fastest of 56 works at the distance.
