Workouts: Arcangelo fires bullet in 1st breeze since Belmont
In his first timed workout since he won the Belmont Stakes last month, Arcangelo went five furlongs in 58.49 seconds, the fastest of four workouts at that distance Wednesday morning at Saratoga.
With the primary goal being next month’s Travers Stakes (G1), trainer Jena Antonucci has said the 3-year-old Arrogate ridgling could race first in either the Haskell (G1) on July 22 at Monmouth Park or the Jim Dandy (G2) on July 29 at Saratoga.

There were eight graded-stakes winners among the reported workouts Wednesday.
Arcangelo (Arrogate), a Grade 1 winner (2023 Belmont), worked five furlongs in 58.49 seconds at Saratoga on Wednesday morning. It was the fastest of four works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he won the Belmont (G1) going 1 1/2 miles on the main track at Belmont Park on June 10 for trainer Jena Antonucci.
Pretty Mischievous (Into Mischief), a two-time Grade 1 winner (2023 Acorn, 2023 Kentucky Oaks), worked four furlongs in 49.2 seconds at Churchill Downs. It was the 23rd fastest of 39 works at the distance. This was her first work since her last race. In her last start she won the Acorn (G1) going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Belmont Park on June 9 for trainer Brendan Walsh.
Chi Town Lady (Verrazano), a Grade 1 winner (2022 Test), worked five furlongs in 1:00.8 at Keeneland. It was the fastest of five works at the distance. This was her first work since her last race. In her last start she placed third in an allowance race going seven furlongs on the main track at Belmont Park on June 16 for trainer Wesley Ward.
Shirl’s Speight (Speightstown), a Grade 1 winner (2022 Mark Mile) worked two furlongs in 26.0 seconds at Woodbine. It was the ninth fastest of nine works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed fourth in the Dubai Turf (G1) going 1 1/8 miles on the turf at Meydan on March 25 for trainer Roger Attfield.
Neptune’s Storm (Stormy Atlantic), a Grade 2 winner (2019 Hill Prince), worked five furlongs in 1:01.0 at Los Alamitos. It was the fastest of five works at the distance. His previous work was eight days ago going five furlongs at Los Alamitos. In his last start he placed fifth in a starter allowance race going six furlongs on the main track at Santa Anita on May 21 for trainer Adan Farias.
Another Mystery (Temple City), a Grade 3 winner (2022 John B. Connally Turf Cup), worked five furlongs in 1:00.8 at Hawthorne. It was the fourth fastest of 10 works at the distance. His previous work was 10 days ago going five furlongs at Hawthorne. In his last start he placed ninth in the Louisville (G3) going 1 1/2 miles on the turf at Churchill Downs on May 20 for trainer Mickey Goldfine.
Guildsman (Wootton Bassett), a Grade 3 winner (2020 Franklin-Simpson), worked three furlongs in 37.6 seconds at Woodbine. It was the slowest of seven works at the distance.
