Woodbine opens Saturday for 129-date meet

Woodbine is set to launch its 2024 Thoroughbred racing season this Saturday.

The 2024 season at the Toronto track will consist of 129 race dates and runs through Sunday, Dec 15. The first two weeks of the meet will have racing held on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday’s opening-day card will feature 10 races and includes the $125,000 Star Shoot Stakes. Post time is 1:10 p.m. EDT.

The new season is highlighted by the 165th running of The King’s Plate on Saturday, Aug. 17. Turf champions day on Saturday, Sept. 14, will have the eyes of the racing world on Woodbine, with four Grade 1 events on the card, including the Woodbine Mile.

Woodbine will add Fridays to the racing schedule on May 10 and then add Thursday twilight racing beginning May 23.

Post time on Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be 1:10 p.m., while Thursday cards will begin at 4:50 p.m.
