Charles Fisher’s Wire Funds took the lead right from the start and never looked back, reporting home a two length winner of the $40,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Saturday.

Trained by Jorge Navarro and ridden by Paco Lopez, Wire Funds went the 5 ½ furlongs over firm turf in 1:02 flat and paid $6.60, $3 and $2.60 as the second choice in the field of eight colts and geldings.  Mister Lucky Cat, the post-time favorite, completed the $16.20 exacta and returned $2.40 and $2.40.  It was another four lengths back to Respighi, who paid $3.80 to show.

A 5-year-old gelding by Love of Money from the Rinka Das mare Emerald N Pearls, Wire Funds has won seven of his 34 lifetime starts.

Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Sunday, Sept. 8 – gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 12:50 p.m.
