Winx back in action in Flemington's Turnbull Stakes
Two of Australia’s most treasured stars will make an appearance at Flemington on Turnbull Stakes Day this Saturday.
Ranked the Longines World’s Best Racehorse, Winx has been nominated for the $500,000 Group 1 Turnbull Stakes, in which the wonder mare is aiming for an unprecedented 28th win in a row and back to back wins in the Flemington feature.
Winx is one of 14 nominations for the Turnbull Stakes, with her rivals expected to include leading Cups contender Kings Will Dream, dual Group 1 winner Grunt and Winx’s talented stablemate, Youngstar.
The 7-year-old daughter of Street Cry is using the Turnbull again as a final prep toward the Group 1 Cox Plate.
Speaking of him and jockey Hugh Bowman, trainer Chris Waller said they're "both very pleased with the way preparation has gone as we head towards the third start of her campaign Saturday."
Winx put in her final workout Monday.
"Hugh could not have been any happier with the way Winx felt and the way she finished her work off," Waller said.
Winx won’t be the only champion on course at Flemington this Saturday, with Chautauqua also confirmed to parade as racegoers celebrate his glittering career.
The winner of more than $8 million in prize money and a four-time winner at Flemington, Chautauqua will parade in the Mounting Yard between races 3 and 4.
Other highlights of the day include The Bart Cummings, a race which offers direct entry into the $7.3 million Lexus Melbourne Cup for the winner. Nominations include Godolphin’s rising star Avillius and the Lindsay Park-trained Jaameh.
