All In Stable’s Willcox Inn,
who won Saturday’s Hawthorne Derby (G3), is back at Keeneland with
trainer Mike Stidham and will remain here to train for his next start in
the Hollywood Derby (G1) on November 27. Stidham’s Keeneland string
also includes Upperline, nominated to the Rood & Riddle Dowager on October 23, and Workin for Hops, expected in the closing-day Fayette (G2). Both Upperline and Working for Hops worked on Monday.
Saez Back in the Saddle
Jockey Gabriel Saez returned to the saddle Tuesday morning for the first time since Saturday and worked four horses for trainer Larry Jones. In the 10th race on Saturday, Saez was aboard Irish Exchange, a filly Jones trains who clipped heels with Coup in deep stretch, throwing the rider to the Polytrack. He was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center and released that evening. “He got on five horses this morning,” said Saez’s agent, Ruben Munoz. “I guess that’s what it means to be 23.” According to Munoz, Saez’s doctor said he didn’t need to undergo an MRI during his follow-up exam on Monday. “He just has some muscular stuff, deep bruises,” Munoz said. Irish Exchange was unhurt in the incident.
