Will Rogers cancels this week's racing to repair track
Will Rogers Downs has canceled racing this week due to track conditions.
A tractor fire last week affected the condition of part of the track, according to a release by Will Rogers Downs about the cancellation. The track worked over the weekend to repair the section of track according to the release, and workouts were conducted over the track Sunday and Monday. However, the track announced Monday afternoon that it would cancel racing through the week.
The next scheduled racing day at Will Rogers Downs is next Monday.
The cancellations affect two stakes races. The Wilma Mankiller, a filly and mare sprint, was scheduled for Monday. That race featured Ragan's Jet, who won the Miranda Diane against Oklahoma-breds on March 27 for trainer Joe Offolter.
The Highland Ice, the Wilma Mankiller's open complement, was scheduled for Tuesday. The morning-line favorite in the Highland Ice was Ernie Banker, who has won three straight races for trainer J. R. Caldwell.
According to a Tweet from track announcer John Lies, both of the stakes races will be brought back next week.
