Will Centre Court Shine in Mrs. Revere?

Centre Court,
winner of the Lake George (Grade II) and Regret (GIII) this summer, headlines a
competitive field of 12 3-year-old fillies entered for Saturday’s 22nd running of the
$175,000-added Mrs. Revere (GII) at Churchill Downs.
The
Mrs. Revere will be co-featured with the ninth running of the $100,000-added
Commonwealth Turf (GIII) on the 11-race “Downs After Dark” racing program. Post
time for the first race is 4:30 p.m. (all times Eastern) and the Mrs. Revere
will go as Race 9 at 8:36 p.m.
Following
her victories in the Regret and Lake George, G. Watts Humphrey Jr.’s Centre
Court ran second behind Stephanie’s Kitten in the Lake Placid (GII) at
Saratoga. In her most recent start, the Rusty Arnold-trained Centre
Court ran second to Dayatthespa in the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup
(GI) at Keeneland.
The
1 1/16-mile Mrs. Revere will mark Centre Court’s third start on the Matt Winn
Turf Course, where she is a perfect 2-for-2. She will break from post seven and
be ridden by Julien Leparoux, who won last year’s Mrs. Revere aboard Marketing
Mix.
Centre
Court will be challenged in the Mrs. Revere by five other graded stakes-winning
fillies.
Bert, Elaine and Richard
Klein’s Miz Ida will be seeking her fourth straight stakes victory
in the Mrs. Revere. In her most recent start, she prevailed by a neck in a
division of the Valley View (GIII) at Keeneland. Shaun Bridgmohan has
been aboard the Steve Margolis-trained Miz Ida for all three of her
stakes scores and will be in the irons Saturday when she breaks from post 11.
Team
Block’s
homebred Leading Astray finished third behind Miz Ida in the Valley View
and will take another shot at that rival when she breaks from the rail in the
Mrs. Revere under Eduardo Perez. Prior to the Valley View, the Chris
Block-trained Leading Astray won the Pucker Up (GIII) on the grass at
Arlington Park.
Exiting
the other division of the Valley View are Colonial Flag and Volcat.
Skara
Glen Stables,
Will Farish and George Prussin’s Colonial Flag ran fifth as the
5-2 favorite in the Valley View. Prior to that effort, she came away victorious
in the Ontario Colleen (GIII) under Joe Rocco Jr., who will be aboard
the Michael Matz-trained filly when the two break from post
nine.

Volcat will enter the Mrs. Revere off a ninth-place finish in the Valley View.
Trained by Ken McPeek, Volcat’s most-notable victory came in the
Virginia Oaks (GIII) when she was ridden by Robby Albarado, who won the
2005 Mrs. Revere aboard My Typhooon-IRE. Albarado will be aboard again
Saturday when Volcat breaks from post 10.
The
remaining graded-stakes winner in the field is Caroline Forgason’s Somali
Lemonade.
Prior
to running fifth in the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup, Somali Lemonade ran
second behind Samitar-GB in the Garden City (GI) at Belmont Park. As a
2-year-old, the Matz-trained filly won the Jessamine (GIII) at Keeneland. She
will break from post four Saturday under Corey Lanerie.

field for the Mrs. Revere, from the rail out (with jockey and weight): Leading
Astray (Perez, 118), Charged Cotton (Ricardo Santana Jr., 118), Peace
Preserver (John Velazquez, 118), Somali Lemonade (Lanerie 118), Lateegra
(Brian Hernandez Jr., 118), English Class (Leandro Goncalves, 118),
Centre Court (Leparoux, 120), Solid Appeal (Kent Desormeaux, 118),
Colonial Flag (Joe Rocco Jr.), Volcat (Albarado, 118), Miz Ida (Bridgmohan,
118) and Regalo Mia (Jesus Castanon, 118).
The
race is named for Mrs. Revere, a four-time stakes winner at Churchill Downs for
Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott. Mrs. Revere was owned by the partnership
of Dr. Hiram Polk and Dr. David Richardson and the two annually
serve as trophy presenters for the stakes named after their prized
filly.
