Florida-bred multiple graded stakes winner Wildcat Red will have some time off at his home base of Gulfstream Park before returning to action during the Championship Meet, which opens December 5.
“We’re giving him a couple of months off,” trainer Jose Garoffalo said. “He had a long summer and ran in some tough races, so we decided to give him a break to refresh him for the upcoming season.”
Honors Stable Corp.’s Wildcat Red has one win in five starts this year, taking the Teddy Drone Stakes August 2 at Monmouth Park. He returned from injury to run third in the Smile Sprint (G2) at Gulfstream in July, and also finished fourth in the August 29 Forego (G1) at Saratoga and fifth in the September 26 Vosburgh (G1) at Belmont Park.
“So far, he looks in good shape. He just needed a little break, that’s it. We’ll be running in December and probably January and February, if everything goes good,” Garoffalo said. “I don’t know where specifically, but we’re going to have the horse refreshed and once the horse is ready we will take a look at the book. He’s got plenty of races, and this is the track he loves. We’ll find the right spot for him.”
