Wildcat Heir colt breaks ten-second barrier

For the first time in nearly a decade, a juvenile clocked an eighth-mile in less than :10 seconds during Sunday’s under-tack show for the Fasig-Tipton Texas two-year-olds in training sale.

A Florida-bred colt from the second crop of Grade 1 winner Wildcat Heir completed one furlong in :09.80 on the Lone Star Park track on a day that yielded consistently fast times.

A steady tailwind of about 20 miles per hour blew throughout the show, sometimes gusting up to around 30 miles per hour, and the wind weakened only slightly as the day progressed. A half-dozen horses worked a furlong in :10, in contrast to last year when two horses tied for the fastest time at :10.20 when a strong headwind blew throughout much of the day.
