Wild Dude Makes Los Al Debut in Los Angeles Stakes

Wild Dude, a double Grade I winner, will make his Los Alamitos debut in the $100,000-guaranteed Los Angeles Stakes Saturday.
A Grade III at 5 ½ furlongs, the Los Angeles is part of a stakes doubleheader. It will be followed about one hour later by the $100,000-guaranteed Bertrando, which will be run at one mile and is for 3-year-olds & up bred or sired in California.
There will also a Stars of Los Alamitos magnet set giveaway to the first 2,500 fans with paid admission. Post time Saturday is 2 p.m.
The L.A. goes as the fifth race with an approximate 3:58 p.m. post while the Bertrando is the seventh and scheduled for 4:58 p.m.
After being offered at Hollywood Park (1938-39, 1955-2013) and Santa Anita (2014-2015), the Los Angeles will be run for the first time at Los Alamitos.
Owned by Green Smith and Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, Wild Dude earned his biggest victories in 2015, capturing the Bing Crosby at Del Mar a little more than two months before winning the Santa Anita Sprint Championship.
A 6-year-old son of Wildcat Heir and the Doneraile Court mare Courtly Choice, Wild Dude has won seven of 20 and a victory Saturday would put him over $1 million in earnings. The Florida bred has a current bankroll of $955,232.
This will be the second appearance in the Los Angeles for Wild Dude. He finished third last year, beaten 1 ¼ lengths by Distinctiv Passion.
San Onofre, the L.A. runner-up in 2015, will also be making his local debut for Matson Racing and trainer Karen Headley.
A 6-year-old gelded son of Surf Cat and the Native Regent mare Marrakech Gold, the California bred has won five of 12 and earned $342,385. His most recent win came in the Grade III Midnight Lute Jan. 2. His victims included Salutos Amigos, who won last Saturday’s Grade I Carter at Aqueduct.
Yiannis will be seeking his fourth win in six starts for Hronis Racing LLC and trainer John Sadler.
A $560,000 purchase as a 2-year-old in March, 2014, the 4-year-old Midshipman ridgling has earned $139,560.
Out of the Montbrook mare Eye’ll Be Fine, Yiannis was fourth in the Grade III Lazaro Barrera in 2015 in his only graded stakes appearance.
Raised a Secret comes off a nose loss to Kafister in an optional claimer March 25.
Owned by Rodney E. Orr and trained by Mark Glatt, the 6-year-old son of Songandaprayer and the Bernstein mare Sensitive Soul is 5-for-28 with earnings of $467,990.
He has started once before at Los Alamitos, finishing sixth in the 2015 Bertrando.
W. Giles will be making his initial start in a graded event after beginning 2016 with three consecutive gate-to-wire wins.
A 5-year-old Swiss Yodeler gelding out of the Speightstown mare Laugh N Yodel, W. Giles has seven victories in 25 attempts and earnings of $178,450. Kristin Mulhall trains the California bred for Tachycardia Stables.
Sir Kip steps up in class and stretches out after a 7-1 upset going 870 yards in a nighttime allowance for thoroughbreds and quarter horses Feb. 12 at Los Alamitos.
Trained by Juan Aleman for Santos Montemayor, the 5-year-old Kelly Kip gelding out of the Yonaguska mare Lady Bean is 1-for-5 in races restricted to thoroughbreds and has earned $47,512.

Soi Phet, a two-time stakes winner at Los Alamitos, will try to end a 13-race losing streak in the Bertrando.
Trained by Leonard Powell for owners Gerald and Sandra Benowitz, Mathilde Powell and Paul Viskovich, the 8-year-old Tizbud gelding hasn’t won since taking the Los Alamitos Mile by more than seven lengths Sept. 6, 2014.
The 11-1 winner of the 2014 Bertrando, Soi Phet, who is out of the Siberian Summer mare Summer Jersey, has won eight of 42 and banked $545,536.
Winner of the Sensational Star going about 6 ½ furlongs on turf Feb. 27, Boozer will be making only his second start on dirt in the Bertrando.
Owned by Al and Saundra Kirkwood and trained by Glatt, the 6-year-old Unusual Heat gelding finished fifth of 10 in his main track debut in an optional claimer going 8 ½ furlongs Jan. 9.
Out of the Cape Canaveral mare Kitty and Boo, Boozer has won six of 21 and has a bankroll of $478,792.
Awesome Return goes turf to dirt after being claimed for $62,500 March 3 by trainer Ted H. West for Gulliver Racing LLC.
A gelded son of Decarchy and the Mr. Broad Blade mare Awesome Broad, Awesome Return has won four- all on turf - of 18 and earned $412,075.
The 5-year-old has failed to hit the board in two races on dirt. He hasn’t started on the surface since finishing a distant fourth behind California Chrome in the California Cup Derby Jan. 25, 2014.
Trained by Doug O’Neill for a partnership that includes Steven Keh, Pablo Suarez and Wonderland Racing Stables, Avanti Bello has won three of 11 and earned $131,743.
The 4-year-old Include colt out of the Mizzen Mast mare Masterful Lass has run twice previously at Los Alamitos. Avanti Bello finished third behind Ambitious Brew and Soi Phet in the E.B. Johnston Stakes last Sept. 12, then was last of nine as the 8-5 favorite in an optional claimer Dec. 6.
Neveradoubt will be making his first start since finishing last of six in the Real Good Deal Stakes last Aug. 2 at Del Mar.
Owned by SLO Racing, Tom Hudson and Tony Narducci and trained by Mike Puype, the 4-year-old Decarchy gelding has won three of seven and banked $211,760.
Out of the Southern Halo mare Southern Oasis, Neveradoubt collected his biggest score when taking the 2015 Snow Chief Stakes on the Santa Anita turf as a 41-1 outsider.
Zip the Monkey, who was last seen finishing eighth in an optional claimer for California breds on turf Feb. 28, will be seeking his initial victory on dirt for Button Stable, Squared Holdings LP, George Hicker, Don Valpredo and trainer Marty Jones.
A 4-year-old son of City Zip and the Bertrando mare Monkey Face, the gelding is 1-for-5 with earnings of $52,265.
Poshsky is back quickly after finishing fourth behind What a View in the Grade III Thunder Road on turf April 9.
Owned by a partnership that includes Gary Barber, Silver Ranch Stable and Wachtel Stable, the 6-year-old Vronsky gelding out of the Bold Badgett mare Pinky’s Posh has won six of 26 and has banked $346,665.
Poshsky, who is winless in four starts this year for trainer Peter Miller, earned his lone dirt victory against $25,000 maidens Sept. 20, 2013 at the now-defunct Fairplex Park.
