California shipper Wickedly Perfect carried her form to Kentucky, taking a field of juvenile fillies wire-to-wire to score the $400,000 Darley Alcibiades (gr. I) Oct. 8 on opening day at Keeneland.
Rafael Bejarano, who swept both stakes at Keeneland, guided the daughter of Congrats
to her second graded victory in the 1 1/16-mile Alcibiades. They
covered the distance on Polytrack in 1:46.26 as the 3-2 favorite. Doug
O’Neill trains Wickedly Perfect for STD Racing, Rafter JR Ranch, and
Peter Moehrke.
The gray/roan filly entered the
Alcibiades off a runner-up finish in the grade I Darley Debutante Sept.
4 at Del Mar. She won both starts prior to that, including the Sorrento
Stakes (gr. III), which was also on Del Mar’s Polytrack.
Bejarano had ridden Wickedly Perfect
in her previous three starts and wasted no time asking her to do what
she does best—run on the front end. They got away with easy fractions
too, leading six rivals through splits of :24.48, :50.19, and 1:15.95.
Second choiceWonderlandbynight, the Arlington-Washington Lassie (gr. III) winner from Sept. 11, chased the leader under E. T. Baird, while Dos Lunas and Jordy Y were also up close.
