TVG, which last year began its wildly popular (and free to play) Super 8 contests, regularly reports in real time each Saturday how many players are alive to pick eight races in a given sequence.

Many are gone after the first leg. Few make it to the final. Over the weekend, for the first time, a $100,000 winner’s pool was claimed.

Somehow, three players finished perfect in last Saturday's Super 8, claiming $33,000 and change apiece.

Two of them — Travis from Arkansas and Darin from New Jersey — went on air to discuss their strategies.

Travis had never before played.

“I just sat down and studied the card this morning,” he said. “I picked out some horses I liked. A lot of the horses I’d seen on TVG before.”

Darin said he’d attempted the Super 8 at least a dozen times.

“Normally when I take my time, I lose,” he said. “This morning I woke up, and it took about 10 seconds. I picked at random.”

Races in the contest were run at a combination of Pimlico, Santa Anita and Gulfstream and included the Preakness Stakes won by Justify. In addition to the winner’s pool, other players earned consolation prizes for picking as few as five winners in the sequence.

Again, this is all free to play each Saturday, and the winner’s share has gone as high as $1 million. To enter your own Super 8 picks, simply join TVG today, and get your selections in by the deadline Saturday. Race orders are typically announced sometime Thursday.

Good luck!
