Stonesthrow Thoroughbred Farm’s Who’dathunk took the lead right from the start and dug in gamely to hold off the late charges of Subtle and Runway Ready to capture the $36,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Sunday, closing day of the 2014 meet.

Trained by Larry Getto and ridden by apprentice Jonathan Zayas, Who’dathunk covered the five furlongs over firm turf in :56 3/5 and paid $20.20, $7.60 and $3.80 in the field of nine fillies and mare.  Subtle, who finished a neck back in second, completed the $101.80 exacta and returned $4.60 and $3.20.  It was another head back to Runway Ready, who paid $2.80 to show.

A 6-year-old daughter of Wised Up from the Grindstone mare Ground Cat, Who’dathunk sports a record of 3-3-6 from 30 career outings.

Live Thoroughbred racing continues in New Jersey at the Big M in East Rutherford with the all-turf Monmouth-at-Meadowlands meet, which races Fridays and Saturdays through Nov. 1.

JUAREZ SENT FOR FUTHER EVALUATION FOLLOWING 8TH RACE SPILL

Apprentice jockey Nik Juarez was sent to Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch after being unseated by his mount Forward Momentum during the running of the 8th race on Monmouth Park’s Sunday card.

“He has a bruise on his right hip,” said Dr. Angelo Chinnici, Medical Director for the racetrack.  “I sent him for x-rays and further evaluation.”

Before entering the first turn in the mile and 70 yards dirt race, Juarez’s mount appeared to clip heels, which caused Valley King to also fall, unseating Victor Santiago, who was uninjured.

The 21-year-old Juarez, who has won 20 races this season at Monmouth, is ninth in the overall standings.  Earlier in the day he accepted the trophy for leading apprentice at the 2014 meet, which wrapped up on Sunday.
