Laurel play of the day: A long shot looms in the Whiteley Stakes

A stakes four-pack is a part of the Laurel Park Saturday slate, and we have eyes on race 8, the Frank Y. Whiteley for older males going seven furlongs. Click here for a free ultimate past performances report on these four stakes and other top races this weekend.

It would be disingenuous of me to think we’re getting 15-1 on Factor It In, but at least we know he won’t be favored thanks to the presence of Worcester.

Factor It In broke on top last out and got shuffled back before making a wide move that was kind of dull. That was his first race in nearly two months, and he can move forward stretching out to seven furlongs.

These type of scenarios, assuming the morning line is close to accurate, are some of my favorites to bet into. The win price is such that you can make a nice score just by being right about that, and you can still key your long shot with a logical in exotics and make some extra coin.

Editor's note: Friday's Laurel Play of the Day, a first-time starter, won and paid $4.60.
