What's Next for Hero of Order?

Raut LLC’s Hero of Order, the 109-1 winner of Sunday’s Louisiana Derby (G2), arrived at Keeneland Monday night, joining his trainer’s 30-horse string here. His trainer, Gennadi Dorochenko, was at Keeneland Wednesday morning, fielding congratulations just about everywhere he turned.

Dorochenko, who was born in Russia and rode for a time in the United States before turning to training, bought Hero of Order for $3,000 at the 2010 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. At Keeneland last October, the Sharp Humor colt made the fifth start of his career, and was disqualified from third to sixth in a 1 1/16-mile maiden claiming event.

Hero of Honor entered the Louisiana Derby with a maiden win in 13 starts. Fans obviously overlooked the colt, but Dorochenko had confidence.

“Look, I spend my life with horses,” he said. “Would I run a horse in a million-dollar race who doesn’t have a chance?”

This morning, the second-most popular question for Dorochenko was, “What’s next for Hero of Order?”

“I want to see if the horse is healthy,” Dorochenko said. “There are plenty of races.”
