Whatlovelookslike is euthanized after injury at Saratoga
Whatlovelookslike, a 6-year-old mare trained by Todd Pletcher, was euthanized Thursday after being injured in the Mount Verunon Stakes on turf at Saratoga on Wednesday.
Pat McKenna, vice president of communications for the New York Racing Association, said in a release, "During the running of race 9 on Wednesday at Saratoga Race Course, the Todd Pletcher-trained Whatlovelookslike (no. 10) was pulled up by jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. after sustaining an injury to the right hind. The horse was immediately attended to by on-track veterinarians, who stabilized the injury and transported Whatlovelookslike to Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
"Although surgery was considered, a CT scan on Thursday revealed severe fractures to the right-hind condyle, pastern and sesamoid. The extent and complicated nature of the injuries did not allow for surgical intervention. As a result, and upon the recommendation of attending veterinarians, Whatlovelookslike was humanely euthanized at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital."
Whatlovelookslike, by English Channel, was owned by Barry Schwartz and bred by his Stonewall Farm. She was the favorite in the Mount Vernon after stepping down from four consecutive graded stakes without a victory. She compiled a 22: 5-4-3 record and had earnings of $500,825.
