Whatever happened to undefeated Chez Pierre?
Chez Pierre, the undefeated 4-year-old trained by Arnaud Delacour, hasn't raced since April but will return to training soon.
"He had a little issue after his last race, something not related to the race, and we had to give him time," Delacour told Horse Racing Nation Monday. "So he had the summer off, and we're going to start him back next week, as a matter of fact."
The France-bred gelded son of Mehmas is familiar with long breaks. He got his start in 2020 at Chantilly, winning his maiden and then an allowance race. He raced once in 2021, winning another Chantilly allowance. All three races were six-furlong sprints on turf.
This year, under the care of Delacour, Chez Pierre opened with a win by a neck in a one-mile allowance optional claiming on turf at Tampa Bay. Then came a 5 1/2-length victory in the listed Henry S. Clark Stakes at Laurel Park in April, at a mile on turf, bringing his record to 5-for-5.
Chez Pierre had been expected to start in the Dinner Party (G2) at Pimlico on the Preakness Stakes undercard.
So when can you see him on the track again? "If all goes well timing-wise," Delacour said, "he should be able to come back in the Tampa stakes, early February."
