What to expect from Monmouth rebid process

Agreements reached between stakeholders in a last-minute deal to save the 2012 thoroughbred racing season at Monmouth Park will shape the state’s follow-up attempt to lease the rights to operate the track.

State Sen. Jennifer Beck said information gained during a failed lease attempt between businessman Morris Bailey and the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority (NJSEA) will shape the way the second bid is structured.

“There were a number of issues that were brought to the attention of the sports authority byMr. Bailey that they ended up negotiating,” she said. “All of those things that went through the process of negotiating will be included in the bid. So, you won’t have to backtrack on some of the issues dividing the responsibility between the lessee and the state. Those things will be included in the rebid to hopefully expedite the process.”

Beck also said some of the issues brought forward by the New Jersey Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association (NJTHA) were resolved.
