Wednesday's Best Bet: Pour Girl to rebound at Indiana Grand
On days when no other major racetrack is running, Indiana Grand is not a bad place to play. It seems less overrun with low $5,000 claimers than other similar-tier tracks. For example, Race 7 on Wednesday is an optional claiming event fillies and mares at 8.5 furlongs over the turf course. Post time is 4:53 p.m. ET.
#5 Pour Girl (7/2) – The fact this 5-year-old mare finished ninth at Keeneland last time might work to bettors’ advantage, as many people handicap by only looking at the finishing position. In this case, she had no pace to close into as TimeformUS marks every fraction blue except for the final. Back in her form are some nice figures (on the TimeformUS scale) including a 109 on Oct. 18. Also note La Sardane, who finished behind Pour Girl at Keeneland, came back to win at Churchill on May 3 with a 109.
#8 Rascofrade (8-1) – From a statistics standpoint, this runner looks good as her trainer/jockey combination hits at 21 percent and is in the money 47 percent of the time. As with Pour Girl, this mare is capable of breaking 100 on TimeformUS, as the 103 earned on Feb. 10 shows. Plus, she will be in a good position stalking the leaders.
#7 Polar Vortex (8-1) – Here is the other Tim Glyshaw starter. Off a 113-189 day layoff, Glyshaw is 2 for 5 over the past year. This filly ran some decent races at Fair Grounds in her past two starts, earning 100 and 102 TimeformUS Speed Figures. Toss out the Keeneland race where she contested the Dowager (G3) against graded stakes horses.
The Plays:
#5 to Win
Exacta 5 / 1,7,8
It should be noted 3,6 and 9 also look like logical contenders. Perhaps someone can construct a more complex vertical wager with those numbers.
