Wednesday works: White Abarrio leads 16 graded winners

Training up to the Breeders’ Cup Classic, two-time Grade 1 winner White Abarrio turned in a bullet workout Wednesday morning at Santa Anita.

With Emily Ellingwood riding for trainer Rick Dutrow, the 4-year-old Race Day colt owned by C2 Racing Stable and Antonio Pagnano was clocked at 1:00.8 for five furlongs, the fastest workout among the five over the course and distance.

It was White Abarrio’s second consecutive bullet breeze. It came in his first work since being shipped from Belmont Park to Santa Anita, where the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic will be run Nov. 4.

Sixteen graded-stakes winners appeared on work tabs across the country Wednesday.

White Abarrio (Race Day), a two-time Grade 1 winner (2023 Whitney, 2022 Florida Derby), worked five furlongs in 1:00.8 at Santa Anita on Wednesday morning. It was the fastest of eight works at the distance. His previous work was eight days ago going four furlongs at Belmont Park. In his last start he won the Whitney (G1) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Saratoga on Aug. 5 for trainer Rick Dutrow.

Get Her Number (Dialed In), a Grade 1 winner (2020 American Pharoah), worked four furlongs in 49.2 seconds at San Luis Rey. It was the fifth fastest of 12 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed 10th in the Mint Millions (G3) going one mile on the turf at Kentucky Downs on Sep. 2 for trainer Peter Miller.

Nutella Fella (Runhappy), a Grade 1 winner (2023 Hopeful), worked five furlongs in 1:01.2 at Saratoga. It was the fastest of four works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he won the Hopeful (G1) going seven furlongs on the main track at Saratoga on Sep. 4 for trainer Gary Contessa.

Secret Oath (Arrogate), a Grade 1 winner (2022 Kentucky Oaks), worked five furlongs in 59.0 seconds at Churchill Downs. It was the fastest of 16 works at the distance. Her previous work was eight days ago going five furlongs at Churchill Downs. In her last start she placed second in the Personal Ensign (G1) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Saratoga on Aug. 25 for trainer D. Wayne Lukas.

Astronaut (Quality Road), a two-time Grade 2 winner (2022 Red Smith, 2021 Del Mar Handicap), worked five furlongs in 1:02.6 at Belmont Park. It was the sixth fastest of eight works at the distance. His previous work was six days ago going five furlongs at Belmont Park. In his last start he placed 10th in the Mac Diarmida (G2) going 1 3/8 miles on the turf at Gulfstream Park on March 4 for trainer Tom Albertrani.

Chewing Gum (Candy Ride), a Grade 2 winner (2022 Joe Hernández), worked four furlongs in 49.7 seconds at Belmont Park. It was the 15th fastest of 37 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed third in an allowance race going 6 1/2 furlongs on the turf at Kentucky Downs on Sep. 3 for trainer Bill Mott.

Evvie Jets (Twirling Candy), a Grade 2 winner (2023 Ballston Spa), worked four furlongs in 51.6 seconds at Belmont Park. It was the slowest of 37 works at the distance. Her previous work was seven days ago going three furlongs at Belmont Park. In her last start she won the Ballston Spa (G2) going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Saratoga on Aug. 24 for trainer Mert Kantarmaci.

Helium (Ironicus), a Grade 2 winner (2021 Tampa Bay Derby), worked four furlongs in 49.3 seconds at Parx Racing. It was the 10th fastest of 47 works at the distance. His previous work was six days ago going four furlongs at Parx Racing. In his last start he won a starter allowance race going one mile 70 yards on the main track at Parx Racing on Aug. 28 for trainer Jamie Ness.

Keepmeinmind (Laoban), a Grade 2 winner (2020 Kentucky Jockey Club), worked four furlongs in 49.4 seconds at Century Downs. It was the fastest of three works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed third in the Woodward (G1) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Belmont at the Big A on Oct. 1 for trainer Todd Pletcher.

Canoodling (Pioneerof the Nile), a two-time Grade 3 winner (2022 Wilshire, 2022 Megahertz), worked four furlongs in 47.8 seconds at Albuquerque. It was the third fastest of 13 works at the distance. This was her first work since her last race. In her last start she placed fifth in an allowance race going five furlongs on the turf at Del Mar on Sep. 1 for trainer Mike Puype.

Anglophile (English Channel), a Grade 3 winner (2023 Dueling Grounds Derby), worked four furlongs in 49.6 seconds at Churchill Downs. It was the 19th fastest of 41 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he won the Dueling Grounds Derby (G3) going 1 5/16 miles on the turf at Kentucky Downs on Sep. 3 for trainer Brian Lynch.

Cupid's Claws (Kitten's Joy), a Grade 3 winner (2020 Tokyo City Cup), worked four furlongs in 48.4 seconds at Woodbine. It was the eighth fastest of 22 works at the distance. His previous work was nine days ago going four furlongs at Woodbine. In his last start he placed fourth in a starter allowance race going 1 3/8 miles on the turf at Woodbine on Aug. 20 for trainer Mark Casse.

Didia (Orpen), a Grade 3 winner (2023 Modesty), worked five furlongs in 1:01.4 at Keeneland. It was the slowest of two works at the distance. Her previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Keeneland. In her last start she placed second in the New York (G1) going 1 1/4 miles on the turf at Belmont Park on June 9 for trainer Ignacio Correas.

Greeley and Ben (Greeley’s Conquest), a Grade 3 winner (2022 Fall Highweight Handicap), worked four furlongs in 50.0 seconds at Laurel Park. It was the slowest of 21 works at the distance. His previous work was 19 days ago going three furlongs at Laurel Park. In his last start he won the Fall Highweight Handicap (G3) going six furlongs on the main track at Aqueduct on Nov. 26 for trainer Faith Wilson.

Like the King (Palace Malice), a Grade 3 winner (2021 Jeff Ruby Steaks), worked four furlongs in 48.0 seconds at Woodbine. It was the fourth fastest of 22 works at the distance. Planetario (Il Doge), a Grade 3 winner (2023 San Juan Capistrano), worked four furlongs in 49.0 seconds at Santa Anita. It was the sixth fastest of 19 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed fifth in the Del Mar Handicap (G2) going 1 3/8 miles on the turf at Del Mar on Sep. 2 for trainer Richard Mandella.
