Wednesday works: 9 graded winners are on the tab

Two graded-stakes winners trained by Mark Casse worked Wednesday morning in preparation for their first starts of the year.

Get Smokin, last seen winning the Grade 3 Valedictory in December, breezed five furlongs in 100.8 at Woodbine, 10th fastest of 23 at the distance. The 8-year-old gelding by Get Stormy also won the United Nations (G2) last year. He returned to the work tab April 6, and Casse told Horse Racing Nation that he probably would run only three or four times this year.

Webslinger, who won a black-type stakes at Churchill Downs last year and finished in the money in three other stakes, went five furlongs in 1:00.2, seventh fastest of 10 at the distance. The 5-year-old gelding by Constitution had knee surgery after finishing second in the Colonial Cup in September, and he also returned to the tab in April.

Nutella Fella (Runhappy), a Grade 1 winner (2023 Hopeful), worked five furlongs in 1:03.8 at Saratoga on Wednesday morning. It was the slower of two works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Saratoga. In his last start he placed eighth in the Commonwealth (G3) going seven furlongs on the main track at Keeneland on April 8 for trainer Gary Contessa.

Get Smokin (Get Stormy), a three-time Grade 2 winner (2024 United Nations, 2023 Kentucky Turf Cup, 2020 Hill Prince), worked five furlongs in 1:00.8 at Woodbine on Wednesday morning. It was the 10th fastest of 23 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Woodbine. In his last start he won the Valedictory (G3) going 1 1/2 miles on the synthetic at Woodbine on Dec. 7 for trainer Mark Casse.

Can Group (Good Samaritan), a Grade 2 winner (2023 Bourbon), worked five furlongs in 1:05.0 at Woodbine on Wednesday morning. It was the slowest of 23 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Woodbine. In his last start he placed fifth in an allowance race going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Tampa Bay Downs on Feb. 15 for trainer Mark Casse.

Webslinger (Constitution), a Grade 2 winner (2023 American Turf), worked five furlongs in 1:00.2 at Woodbine on Wednesday morning. It was the seventh fastest of 23 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Woodbine. In his last start he placed second in the Colonial Cup going 1 1/2 miles on the turf at Colonial Downs on Sept. 7 for trainer Mark Casse.

Goliad (War Front), a two-time Grade 3 winner (2024 Mint Millions, 2024 Thunder Road), worked six furlongs in 1:12.2 at Santa Anita on Wednesday morning. It was the only work at the distance. His previous work was nine days ago going six furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start he placed ninth in the Breeders' Cup Mile going one mile on the turf at Del Mar on Nov. 2 for trainer Richard Mandella.

His previous work was 11 days ago going four furlongs at Turfway Park. In his last start he placed fourth in an allowance race going 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf at Keeneland on April 18 for trainer Brad Cox.
