Wednesday works: 9 graded winners are on the tab

Mentee, winner of last year's Futurity (G3) but unraced since finishing 12th in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf, is back at work for trainer Todd Pletcher and owner-breeder Mike Repole.

The 3-year-old City of Light colt, a full brother to 2023 2-year-old champion Fierceness, breezed three furlongs in 36.6 seconds at Belmont Park, fourth fastest of 18 at the distance. It was his second work since the Breeders' Cup after he went the same distance in 37.22 seconds a last Wednesday.

Those 3-year-old colts were among nine graded-stakes winners with published works Wednesday.

Citizen Bull (Into Mischief), a two-time Grade 1 winner (2024 Breeders' Cup Juvenile, 2024 American Pharoah), worked seven furlongs in 1:24.2 at Santa Anita on Wednesday morning. It was the faster of two works at the distance. His previous work was five days ago going six furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start, he placed fourth in the Santa Anita Derby (G1) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Santa Anita on April 5 for trainer Bob Baffert.

Beyond Brilliant (Twirling Candy), a Grade 1 winner (2021 Hollywood Derby), worked three furlongs in 37.2 seconds at Santa Anita on Wednesday morning. It was the 12th fastest of 19 works at the distance. His previous work was six days ago going three furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start, he placed second in the Seabiscuit Handicap (G2) going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Del Mar on Nov. 26 for trainer John Shirreffs.

Kopion (Omaha Beach), a Grade 1 winner (2024 La Brea), worked seven furlongs in 1:25.0 at Santa Anita on Wednesday morning. It was the slower of two works at the distance. In her last start, she won the Santa Monica (G2) going seven furlongs on the main track at Santa Anita on Feb. 1 for trainer Richard Mandella.

Sandman (Tapit), a Grade 1 winner (2025 Arkansas Derby), worked five furlongs in 1:02.4 at Churchill Downs on Wednesday morning. It was the 20th fastest of 29 works at the distance. His previous work was eight days ago going four furlongs at Churchill Downs. In his last start, he won the Arkansas Derby (G1) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Oaklawn on March 29 for trainer Mark Casse.

Our Shot (Kantharos), a Grade 2 winner (2024 Woodford), worked four furlongs in 52.2 seconds at Belmont Park on Wednesday morning. It was the 40th fastest of 45 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start, he placed fourth in the Shakertown (G2) going 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf at Keeneland on April 8 for trainer John Terranova.

Happy American (Runhappy), a Grade 3 winner (2023 Louisiana), worked three furlongs in 38.6 seconds at Churchill Training on Wednesday morning. It was the third fastest of four works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start, he placed fourth in the Count Fleet Sprint Handicap (G3) going six furlongs on the main track at Oaklawn on April 12 for trainer David Jacobson.

Highestdistinction (Point of Entry), a Grade 3 winner (2023 International Turf Cup), worked four furlongs in 49.2 seconds at Highpoint Farm And Training Center on Wednesday morning. It was the second fastest of five works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Highpoint Farm And Training Center.
